Federal Sponsored Shooters Shine at Spring Grand

February 26, 2021 by contrib1 Leave a Comment

Federal Sponsored Shooters Shine at Spring Grand
U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Team Federal congratulates one of its newest members, Payton Detavernier, as she claimed the Lady 1 Singles Championship at the Spring Grand in Tucson, Arizona. Detavernier, a Nebraska native, bested a field of fifty-one competitors in her Team Federal debut. Detavernier shot an impressive score of 199 out of 200 using Federal’s Top Gun 1 1/8-ounce loads.

“I am so excited to be a part of this amazing team and so ready to kick off this new target year,” said Detavernier, a college student at Doane University in Nebraska. “I believe that Federal Ammunition is the best ammunition for me, and I believe this is a big step in my career,” stated Detavernier.

Also turning in a strong performance was Utah native Grayson Stuart. Stuart finished in second place in the Junior 1 category with a 198 out of 200 narrowly missing the top spot by just one clay target. Stuart finished runner-up for High Over All in the Junior 1 category to complete a fantastic week of trap shooting competition.

Competing in the Handicap Championship, Team Federal’s Aaron Willoughby finished third out of 545 competitors in the event and was the winner of the Hall of Fame Contributor Award Trophy. The Kentucky native missed part of the competition due to weather and flight cancellations but says, “it was a good start for sure despite the travel difficulties.” Willoughby’s choice of loads is Gold Medal Grand Paper when shooting from 27 yards. “This sets me up for the Southern Grand coming up in March,” says Willoughby, where he has enjoyed success at the Silver Dollar Shooters Club.

Other Team Federal shooters that participated at the Spring Grand include Greg Ferguson, who finished fifth in the Handicap Championship and Ray Stafford, who won the Senior Vet Singles Championship in a shoot off.

Winchester Continues Sponsoring of NSCA Championship Tour in 2021

February 24, 2021 by contrib1 Leave a Comment

Winchester is supporting shooting sports and by extension, the Second Amendment. iStock 527374281U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Winchester returns as the title sponsor of the 2021 National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Championship Tour.  The NSCA Championship Tour represents the very best there is in sporting clays with the world’s top sport shooters gathering at the finest gun clubs to compete for top honors.

“Winchester is committed to shooting sports at the highest levels of competition as well as offering opportunities to those who are new to the sport,” said Matt Campbell, vice president of sales and marketing for Winchester Ammunition. “We continue our support of the NSCA with our legendary brand and famous AA shotshells.”

The legendary AA shotshell has been a favorite among competitive sport shooters for over 60 years. In 2020, Winchester bolstered its AA shotshell line with the addition of AA Diamond Grade shotshells.  This new and improved AA shotshell utilizes the same premium powder, smooth hull, and recoil-reducing hinged wad made famous in the standard AA shotshells, but now it offers the added benefit of the absolute hardest most uniform lead shot available. This precision sorted shot has an antimony level of 8% and is copper plated, which prevents pellet deformation.

The NSCA released their full schedule of 2021 NSCA Championship Tour events, as seen below.

Morgun King Wins
Precision Rifle Series’ Leupold Steel Classic

February 10, 2021 by contrib1 Leave a Comment

Leupold Core Team Member Morgun King Wins
Precision Rifle Series’ Leupold Steel Classic
U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce that Leupold Core Team Member Morgun King won the Leupold Steel Classic, a Precision Rifle Series event held Jan. 30-31 in Navasota, Texas.

A two-day event, the Leupold Steel Classic featured an 18-stage course built to test shooter experience, with targets out to 1,100 yards. King runs the award-winning Mark 5HD–with the brand-new PR2-MIL reticle–on his competition rifle.

“When you’re competing against some of the best long-range precision shooters in the nation, no gear makes more of a difference on the line than your riflescope,” King said. “The new PR2 is a competition-changing reticle that’s open, simple and incredibly fast.”

Developed with input from the country’s top competitors and professional shooters, the PR2 reticles are specifically designed for long range speed and precision. Two styles are available: the PR2-MIL and the PR2-MOA. They will be carried in Leupold’s Mark 5HD line, in both a 5-25x and 7-35x configuration. Leupold’s Mark 5HD riflescope, meanwhile, has been crafted to redefine accuracy, precision, and optical performance for long-range shooters. Pick one up and you’ll feel the difference: it’s up to 20 ounces lighter than other scopes in its class. Get behind one and you’ll see the difference, from its superior edge-to-edge clarity to its extreme low-light performance.

“We spent months working with some of the nation’s top competitive shooters, including Morgun, to help develop the PR2,” said John Snodgrass, Tactical Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “The end result is a reticle solution that’s going to reduce your clutter, simplify your shooting process, and honestly improve your long-range performance, with ease.”

SIG’s Lena Miculek Earns The Gundies Most Influential Female Award
U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce Team SIG Pro Shooter Lena Miculek received the Gundies Most Influential Female Award. The Gundies is an annual community voted award that spotlights the world’s best firearm-centric content creators and influencers.

“It’s an incredible honor for me to receive this recognition from the fans and enthusiasts in the firearms industry. Shooting for me is not just a pastime, hobby, or even passion, it’s my life. I am a third-generation competitive shooter following in the footsteps of my grandfather and both parents and have spent the vast majority of my life training on the range,” added Miculek. “I turned pro eight years ago and I made it a goal of mine to break barriers for females in professional shooting. I am the first woman to set an NRA World Speed Shooting Record and make Grand Master Class in the USPSA PCC Division. There’s still so much more to do and prove that women are the future of professional shooting.”

As a professional shooter, Team SIG’s Lena Miculek has over 135 major wins and 8 world titles in five different disciplines. While Lena is regarded as one of the top female 3-Gun competitors in the world, she now focuses her competition shooting on pistol caliber carbine (PCC) where she defines the competition and dominates the leader board. In addition to being named The Gundies Most Influential Female, Miculek also received a SHOT Business 40 Under 40 Award which recognizes young leaders in the firearms industry.

“We are incredibly proud of Lena for these recognitions and her influence as a female, not only in professional shooting sports, but our industry, and congratulate her on this accomplishment,” added Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, SIG SAUER, Inc. “Lena is incredibly disciplined and has set lofty goals for her future and we are honored to support her. She’s a driving force behind Team SIG and we know this is just the beginning and the sky is the limit for the Lena.”

SASP Athletes Earn Debut Podium Placement in AZ Championship

January 31, 2021 by contrib1 Leave a Comment

Scholastic Action Shooting Program athletes earned top placements at their debut AZ match. IMG SASPU.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- With the recent addition of international air disciplines to the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), Arizona teams were eager to participate in the USA Shooting Arizona State Pistol Championship on Tuesday, December 29th at the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club in Mesa, Arizona. Many of these SASP athletes had competed in action shooting matches for years but were new to international-style pistol matches. With only one month to prepare, three teams practiced for the event, with ten athletes choosing to compete for the State Championship.

With years of muscle memory tasked for speed, these young action shooting athletes had to slow things down and hit very precise shots at the Olympic 10M pistol event.

Instead of multiple steel target arrays, international-style pistol matches require the athletes to shoot from the standing position, one-handed at a target with approximately a one-inch “10-ring”, located 32’ 9.7” away. The equipment the athletes use and method of match preparation are also very different from action shooting. Olympic air pistols were borrowed, practices scheduled, guns zeroed, familiarization with the rules, and new performance routines were learned by these athletes.

When the athletes are on the firing line, coaching is not allowed, so coaches must properly prepare their athletes ahead of time with the full knowledge they are going to need during the match. After the fast, but focused month of preparation, it all came down to the 60-shot, 90-minute match of the USA Shooting Arizona State Pistol Championship.
Congratulations to University of Arizona WildGats President, Julia for her 1st place finish.  Second place went to Theodore from Straight Shooters.  Third place went to AJ K from the Venture Crew shooting team, Baden-Powell.
Currently, 46 states have USA Shooting rifle matches and 30 states have USA Shooting pistol matches.  With SASP’s addition of 10 Meter Air Rifle, 10 Meter Air Pistol and Sport Pistol, youth athletes throughout the country can experience the excitement of team-based shooting sports in both the wildly exciting sport of action shooting and the disciplined precision of international air disciplines.
As the Official Youth Feeder Program for USA Shooting, the SASP gives opportunities, including Junior Olympic Development Camps for young athletes to pursue their Olympic dreams. With the recent addition of Jim Henderson as the SASP Director of Development for International shooting, the SASP is demonstrating its commitment to create more shooting programs for our youth. Henderson stated that he will, “bring more youth to the fun side of precision shooting.”
About Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation
The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is 501(c)(3) public charity responsible for all aspects of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) across the United States. SCTP and SASP are youth development programs in which adult coaches and other volunteers use shooting sports to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. SCTP was developed as a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) until the SSSF was created in 2007 to operate the SCTP. In 2012, SSSF created the SASP and became the managing foundation of both programs.
